2025 Federal Legislative Update
As the 118th Congress adjourns, it leaves behind critical unresolved legislation, including a continuing resolution to avert a government shutdown and a new Farm Bill. A partial shutdown starting Saturday could disrupt TTB approvals and impact holiday wine sales, adding uncertainty for winegrape growers already awaiting disaster relief.
USDA Food Safety Certification for Specialty Crops Program—Applications due by January 31
Specialty crop operations can receive financial assistance for food safety certification costs through the USDA's Food Safety Certification for Specialty Crops (FSCSC) program. Eligible businesses must apply by January 31, 2025, for the 2024 program or by January 31, 2026, for the 2025 program—learn more and apply online at the FSCSC portal.
Marketing Assistance for Specialty Crops Program—Applications due by January 8
The USDA's $2 billion Marketing Assistance for Specialty Crops (MASC) program offers financial aid to help specialty crop producers expand their marketing efforts and manage higher costs. Eligible producers must apply by January 8, 2025, and can find full program details and application forms online.
Proposal for the “Columbia Hills” AVA is under TTB review
The TTB is considering adding "Columbia Hills" as Washington's 22nd AVA, covering 29,387 acres in Klickitat County within the Columbia Valley AVA. Public comments on this proposal are open until February 3, 2025—help shape the future of Washington wine by submitting feedback online.
